The Vado-Cervera station
The Vado-Cervera station is located in the small town of La Estación, which belongs to the municipality of Dehesa de Montejo.
This infrastructure belongs to the old Bilbao-La Robla mining railroad, a railway line classified as narrow gauge that ran 335 km, which made it the longest narrow gauge in Western Europe. This railroad was inaugurated in August 1894 to transport coal from the mines of León and Palencia to Vizcaya, the home of the iron and steel industry.
It was built by the Sociedad del Ferrocarril Hullero de La Robla a Valmaseda, although it would later become known as Ferrocarriles de La Robla. In 1972, the company went bankrupt and the public FEVE took over management of the line, but did not succeed in turning things around. As a result, passenger traffic was suspended in 1991.
Since 2013, ADIF (national Infrastructure Manager in Spain) has been managing the railway services provided by Renfe Cercanías and continues to use the station.
It consists of a two-story, gable-roofed main building with three openings per floor on the facades facing the tracks and the village. It also has a metal canopy that protects the platforms, which have been rebuilt at a higher height than the original ones. Finally, there is also an adjoining warehouse with a gable roof and two doors facing the tracks.
This station belongs to the La Robla railroad and provides daily service to León or Bilbao.
