Paradas
Paradas is a hamlet in the parish of San Martín del Valledor, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Asturian municipality of Allande, in the Vaqueira region.
San Martín del Valledor comprises fourteen nuclei, including Paradas, and together with sixteen other parishes such as Besullo, Villaverde, Celón, Pola de Allande, Lago, and Berducedo, they forms the council of Allande.
The first documented settlements in the area date back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by remnants of tombs and megalithic structures that dot the landscape. Subsequently, these lands passed into the hands of Celtic tribes with Asturian heritage, fostering a distinctive castreña culture marked by the establishment of fortified settlements known as castros atop mountain peaks and elevations.
The Roman occupation during the 1st and 2nd centuries AD transformed the area into a mining hub, with notable gold excavations carried out in the Oro River valley within the municipality of Allande.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, these villages and hamlets have suffered severe depopulation.
