Busdival
Busvidal is a hamlet located in the parish of San Martín del Valledor, part of the Asturian council of Allande. Situated in the Vaqueira region, it lies approximately 30 km from the capital. San Martín del Valledor encompasses 14 urban centres, including Paradas, La Furada, Rubieiro, El Provo, El Engertal, Robledo, and Tremado. Together with sixteen other parishes, San Martín del Valledor makes up the municipality of Allande.
The history of this area dates back to the Neolithic period, evident in the documented settlements, tombs, and megalithic structures scattered throughout the landscape. Subsequently, various Celtic tribes left their mark with fortified settlements atop mountain peaks and elevations. The Roman occupation of Asturias in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD transformed the region into a mining hub, with gold extraction along the Oro River valley becoming a pivotal activity in Allande.
In the 10th century, under the reign of Alfonso III of Asturias, the lands of the Oro River valley, including Busvidal, were donated to the Church of Oviedo. The historical ties to the monastery of San Martín del Valledor further underscore the region's cultural significance.
Among the monuments that dot this historic landscape, the Chapel of Santa Bárbara de Busvidal stands out. This small church, characterised by a single nave and a three-slope roof made of masonry, is adapted to the slope of Pico Buspol. Nestled along the banks of the Couto River, the chapel exudes rustic charm and simplicity and features a façade adorned with a couple of benches.
