Taja
Taja is a village in the parish of Teverga with its original population dating back to the 11th century.
Among the buildings in the village is the Church of Saint Emiliano, located about 100 m to the northern outskirts of the village.
There are many rivers and streams in the environs of the village. To the west runs the Reguero Puntón which joins the river Taja to the south of the village. To the east, a little further away, is the Barranco de Taja, which also flows into the river Taja.
The scenery that makes up the river Taja valley is mainly comprised of scrub, meadows and beech forests. Although, to a lesser degree, mixed woodlands, chestnut groves, grasslands, Pyrenean and holly oak groves etc. also feature.
The landscapes of the municipality include the Braña de Vicenturo and the Braña de Cueiro, where a traditional pilgrimage is held. Between the two brañas (seasonal pasture) there is a hiking route that offers spectacularly beautiful views of the Teverga valley. This path was used to graze livestock in the summer months and this practice is still carried out, although to a lesser extent. The path passes by numerous shepherds' huts and livestock buildings.
Taja celebrates the pilgrimage of Cueiro at the beginning of September and the festivities of Our Lady of the Rosary in October.
