Alto La Cobertoria
The Alto de La Cobertoria is a mountain pass that joins the Trubia and Lena valleys.
At its highest point, at 1179 m above sea level, there is a megalithic necropolis, which includes six megaliths that were used from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age.
One of the dolmens in the necropolis, the dolmen of Mata'l Casare, has a burial chamber and tumulus (a mound of earth on top of a grave).
The climb up the pass is very popular with cyclists, as it is 9.5 km long and has an average gradient of around 9%, in some sections even exceeding 10%.
La Cobertoria celebrates the Fiesta del Cordero (Lamb festival), which brings together the towns and villages of Lena and Quirós, on the first Sunday in July.
Four kilometres from this point, following the AS-230 towards Llanuces, is the Laguna de Los Veneros. This body of water located on the track that ascends to Gamoniteiru, at an altitude of 1,325 m.
This lagoon was formed by the waterproofing of the clay in the soil of the pond that collects meltwater and has subsequently been modified for livestock use.
Remains of prehistoric civilisations can be found in the vicinity of the Laguna de los Veneros.
The site is part of the Sierra del Aramo Protected Landscape.
