The Mimbre Stream
The Mimbre stream flows through the village of Badilla in Sayago and discharges into the Pisón stream near the town of Cozcurrita, which in turn discharges into the Duero River. The stream in question is a tranquil one, flanked by bridges and mills that blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, creating a picturesque image of the region of Sayaguesa.
The water flow in question is the succession of the Saz stream, which previously derived from the Perero and Llagona streams, located to the south of the town of Moralina. This stream is joined by a series of additional streams that divert their flow to the main stream. These include the Canceréis stream, which rises to the west of Torregamones; the Valmoyado stream, located to the northwest of Argañín; the Palla stream and the Rita Portilla stream, which are located to the north of Gamones.
The drainage network is significantly influenced by seasonal variations. During the summer months, the riverbed typically exhibits minimal water flow, whereas during the wettest periods, the stream can transport considerable quantities of water to the Pisón stream.
The water flow has been utilised for the irrigation of the fields in Badilla and Cozcurrita. In the past, the stream was also used to power the flour mills that have served the region so well. The structures have retained their status as vestiges of agricultural activity and are part of the ethnological heritage of the region. A route of considerable scenic beauty, which begins in Badilla and follows the river, offers the opportunity to observe up to five windmills. Of these, only one is in a state of deterioration. The mills in question are the "Carrizo", the Molino Cabildo, the Molino Matarranas and the Molino Panchón. The majority of these have undergone renovations and are now operational. Conversely, the bucolic ruins of the Molino Valduzón can be observed.
In addition to the mills, visitors may also wish to view the La Peral Fountain and two troughs carved in granite stone. The fountain's construction is notable for its adherence to the Sayago architectural style, characterised by a barrel vault. Another noteworthy structure is the Puente de La Manzanal, which was constructed during the medieval period and is made of granite masonry. Another notable bridge is the Pontón de las Riveras, which was built with granite blocks.
The Mimbre stream is situated in a landscape characterised by a holm oak grove, which is interspersed with granite rocks and offers a sense of tranquillity. The sheep graze around it, and the green aquatic plants of the stream contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of this natural spectacle.
