Hamlet of Tímulos
The Caserío de Tímulos, also known as Témulos, is an ancient Spanish village belonging to the municipality of Toro, located in the province of Zamora, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León.
The history of Tímulos is not well documented. However, it is estimated that the village was depopulated around 1600. It should be noted that in Pascual Madoz's Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar, it is described as a beautiful enclave located on a plain on the road leading to the town of Villafranca de Duero. It is understood that this town had a highly fertile land on which high-quality wine was produced.
The same sources indicate that the disappearance of the settlement can be attributed to the plague that struck the region around 1600.
The village was previously home to a church, but no remains of this structure have been preserved. The site now comprises a small chapel and vestiges of a beneficio, where festivities were held from San Juan until the beginning of November.
