Moron River
The Morón river is situated to the south of Almazán at an altitude of approximately 935 metres.
The river runs from Morón del Almazán to the town of Almazán, where it flows into the Duero.
Despite the impermeability of its basin, the river in question has a significant base flow. The gentle slope of the terrain and the hypodermic flow from the fields are the main reasons for this.
The Duero River basin is the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, occupying 98,073 km². Of these, 81% are in Spain, with the remaining 19% in Portugal.
The riverine gallery forest exhibits a humidity gradient, with three distinct zones. The first zone is characterised by aquatic plants, the second by shrubs and small trees, and the third by large arboreal vegetation comprising willows, poplars and birches.
The riverbanks are narrow strips of vegetation that are particularly abundant in these ecosystems, which are reminiscent of tropical rainforests. This makes them an ideal habitat for a great deal of biodiversity.
The Duero is home to a vast array of flora and fauna, including otters, river bats, scops owls, eagle owls, great crested grebes, kingfishers, midwife toads, and marbled newts, among many others.
