The Cuerda del Pozo reservoir
The Cuerda del Pozo reservoir is situated in the municipality of Vinuesa on the River Duero. Along with the Los Rábanos reservoir, it is responsible for regulating the river course at its source.
The infrastructure project was approved in 1923. Following the end of the Civil War, Republican political prisoners were employed as labourers. The reservoir was inaugurated in September 1941, resulting in the complete flooding of the village of La Muedra. This has led to the reservoir being informally known as the village, with the church tower visible from the centre of the reservoir.
The Cuerda del Pozo dam is thirty-six metres high and 425 metres long, with a reservoir capacity of 249 million cubic metres, making it one of the six largest dams built in this river basin.
The area around the Cuerda del Pozo reservoir is a popular destination for a variety of sporting activities, including sailing and windsurfing, as well as fishing, particularly in the Playa Pita area.
