Medicinal springs of Tejeira
Hidden in the heart of the Ancares, at 1,350 metres above sea level, lie the medicinal springs of Tejeira, also known as the Pedra Cabalar springs. They are in Monte dos Penedois, a meadow surrounded by oak, yew, holly and rowan trees that invite calm and relaxation. Five small clay spouts emerge from a curious triangular stone structure. From each flows a trickle of water that, according to popular tradition, possesses unique medicinal properties. The springs are identified by inscriptions indicating their purported uses: the Blond Spring, good for stimulating the appetite; the White Spring, indicated for stomach ailments; the Xipela Spring, good for the skin; the Almorrana Spring, to alleviate haemorrhoids; and the Carvallaliños Spring, to cure liver diseases.
The Ancares region boasts numerous springs and fountains to which medicinal properties are attributed, particularly due to their high iron content; their consumption is associated with alleviating anaemia, as well as strengthening nails and hair.
Beside the springs stands the Pedra Cabalar refuge, which belongs to the Tejeira Neighbourhood Council, alongside wooden picnic tables, perfect for enjoying the surroundings after a walk.
