El Guayero Bridge
The Anaga-Chasna Nature Trail uncovers one of the greatest treasures on the island of Tenerife: the incredible nature. The quality and, above all, quantity of contrasts that the island offers, due to its insular character, its volcanic origin and its mild climate, is very striking.
On the final stage of this trail you will reach the Ifonche Protected Landscape, an area covering almost 775 hectares located between the municipalities of Vilaflor and Adeje and bordered to the north by the Corona Forestal Natural Park.
Although some scattered farmhouses and terraced crops are still preserved, the abandonment of many others has resulted in a degraded landscape where the pine forest has recovered its space where other natural resources are concentrated, such as the cliffs and the slopes of the deepest and steepest ravines, as well as the Imoque and Los Brezos rock formations.
In this bucolic environment there is a small stone bridge that crosses Las Goteras ravine, the area with the highest interest in terms of flora in the area and known as such by the local population due to its numerous springs, used as washing places by the locals.
This is El Guayero bridge. It is a small, popular bridge and the date of its construction is unknown. It consists of a single semi-circular arched span made of irregular-shaped stones of varying sizes arranged horizontally with a small parapet.
This area of ravines is home to an abundance of Canarian willows, brambles and rock communities while, in the surrounding area, the old crops have given way to wild thyme and marigolds. There are also pine forests where rockroses, broom and pennyroyal grow, among many other species.
These territories are home to birds such as great spotted woodpeckers, blue tits, Teide chaffinches and goldcrests.
