Bazalote Bridge
This bridge over the Mirón River, in the municipality of Balazote, Albacete, is an infrastructure over which the railway that would have connected Baeza with Utiel was originally supposed to run. Along its route, it would have crossed the heart of the Sierra de Alcaraz mountain range in Albacete. The construction of this ambitious project began to take shape at the beginning of the 20th century. However, the feasibility studies for the routes of the railway determined that its implementation would not be profitable and the initiative was abandoned completely, shelving the countless works carried out up to that point, leaving behind the facilities and buildings that would never serve the promised train. The Balazote Bridge is one of those infrastructures that the railway never crossed. Despite this, the structure of the viaduct, which consists of four arches under which, when the river has sufficient flow, the waters of the Mirón flow through. A small shrine dedicated to the Virgin of the Bridge has been installed on its surface.
