Punta Prima
Between Mahón and Es Castell, specifically in the town of Sant Lluís, you will find one of the most touristy beaches in the area. Punta Prima, also known as Playa del Aire (El Aire Beach, referring to El Aire Island, very close to the coast and where one of the island's most beautiful lighthouses is located), is famous for its crystal-clear blue waters and fine white sand.
Measuring around 120 metres long, the bay is protected from the southerly winds, so there is hardly any swell. It belongs to a nearby residential area bearing the same name, which is full of tourists and visitors in summer, both from the island and abroad. As this residential area is so close, it offers many services that will make the day much more pleasant for visitors.
During the British domination, which lasted almost half a century, Punta Prima was popularly known as "Sandy Bay", most likely because of its dune field, which has now given way to the promenade and some parts of the residential area, such as a car park and a children's playground.
Following the Camí de Cavalls trail south, you will reach Son Ganxo Tower, built between 1785 and 1787 during the Spanish domination of the island. If, on the other hand, you follow the trail to the north, you will reach Alcalfar Tower.
