Parador de Alcañiz
History, art and motorsport in the land of kings
The Parador de Alcañiz is sitatued in one of the most complex architectural ensembles of Aragon. The huge building, half castle and half convent, will impress you with its imposing outline that dominates the entire area.
Alcañiz is the ideal place to forget about routines and get away: breakfast at the Romanesque cloisters, a glass of wine in the enclosed patio of the old palace or a walk through its tranquil gardens. The wide interior spaces and careful décor of the building augment the exterior light and make the rooms warm and welcoming without losing their historical touch.
Built on the summit of the Cerro Pui Pinos, this 12th-13th c. castle-convent still conserves its keep, the belltower-sacristy and the 17th c. Palacio de los Comendadores.
The 14th c. Gothic frescos deserve a special mention. They cover the walls and are set, along with the beautiful Plateresque sepulchre and Baroque façade, in a space of smooth red, ochre and green tones that will take you to another age as you gaze at the marvellous landscape of the Aragonese Maestrazgo’s mountain range.
