Hontoria del Pinar
Hontoria del Pinar is located in the heart of the Sierra de la Demanda mountains, about 80 km from the capital, Burgos. The origins of the settlement that gave rise to this town date back to the Neolithic Era and the Iron Age; however, the consolidation of the municipality as it is known today would not come until the 10th century, when these lands were repopulated after the expulsion of the Moors.
The municipality boasts a number of heritage sites like the castle, an old medieval fortress that defended the settlement, the medieval bridge over the Lobos River, a triple-arch Romanesque bridge over which the Roman road linking the cities of Clunia and Uxama passed. Other buildings of note include the Casa del Médico and the Parish Church.
In this natural environment, the Lobos River Canyon, an environment of great scenic beauty.
This municipality of Burgos holds festivals in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and San Roque from 14 to 17 August.
