Tarabás River
The Tarabás River, which is one of the main tributaries of the Burejo River, is located in the northern part of the province of Palencia in the valley of La Ojeda.
It supplies water to the lands of the municipality of Perazancas. It passes through this town and you can visit the Romanesque St. Pelayo chapel, which is just 1 km to the south. This chapel was built on the remains of a pre-Romanesque building which still has certain features such as the Mozarabic style capitals located on the western facade.
Leaving Perazancas, the Tarabás River continues flowing through a natural area filled with grey poplars (Populus canescens fr. Albicans). This is important to note because it is a rare tree species in Spain as it is found very sparsely in mountainous areas.
Ultimately, the river reaches the town of Olmos de Ojeda, where the Baroque palace of D. Tomas Rodríguez Monroy is of particular interest, as well as its Gothic parish church that is dedicated to St. Michael. Writings from the year 1352 are preserved there.
After passing through this town, the Tarabás flows into the Burejo River, which originates in Colmenares de Ojeda, receives the water from this tributary on its right bank as it passes through Olmos de Ojeda, and flows into the Pisuerga River near the town of Herrera, where it is common to fish because the river's water quality is generally good.
