Antrago river
The Antrago River, known as Antrau in Asturian, is as a tributary to the Narcea River that flows into the village that shares its name. Spanning approximately 19 kilometers, the river, inclusive of the Fastia stream, originates in the Fuente de Siecho within the Sierra del Acebo, near the foothills of the mountains within the Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña, and Ibias Natural Park.
Renowned for its crystalline and pure waters, the Antrago River boasts a diverse aquatic fauna, making it a favored destination for trout (Salmo trutta) and salmon (Salmo salar) enthusiasts. It holds the distinction of being a free zone under traditional regulations, permitting the use of all approved baits and allowing anglers to catch specimens according to the limit stipulated in annual fishing regulations.
As the Antrago descends towards the Narcea River, it carves through the Pillarma mountain range, creating a picturesque valley enveloped by lush forests, meadows, and majestic mountains. The landscape, adorned with chestnut trees (Castanea sativa), ash trees (Fraxinus angustifolia), and alders (Alnus glutinosa), underscores the ecological richness of the surroundings. In this habitat, foxes (Vulpes vulpes), genets (Genetta genetta), and martens (Martes martes) vie for dominance alongside small rodents and other creatures that frequent the cold waters of the river.
