El Xurbéu Waterfall
The Xurbéu Waterfall, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the parish of Aller, is but a short walk from the village of Murias. Located just 1.1 km from the village centre and in a beautiful forest, it forms a natural enclave of outstanding beauty.
The waterfall is located in the valley of the Negro River, in an area rich in slate, sandstone and coal. At a height of 20 m, the waters of the Reguera del Jurvea spill over into the Negro River. Here, the water falls as if it were pieces of string, onto the dark rocks of the mountainside. This hypnotic effect is accompanied by a fairytale-like atmosphere, surrounded by a dense forest of chestnut, oak and other riparian species, as well as a thick blanket of ferns and moss.
To get to the Xurbéu waterfall, follow a route that starts in the car park near the village of Murias. The path is straightforward, but fairly steep in some parts. It begins by going into the Rasón Mountain until it crosses the river Negro over a wooden bridge. After following the clearly signposted path, there are some steps that bring visitors to this magnificent natural treasure.
The image of the waterfall not only represented Asturias at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) but was awarded the best photo at the fair. Without doubt, it is a gem hidden in the heart of Asturias.
