Arroyo de la Palla
Arroyo de la Palla, which is particularly alluring, flows through fields that form a beautiful mosaic to the west of Torregamones and Gamones.
The watercourse originates in the western part of Torregamones, an area characterised by the presence of several small bodies of water. The stream flows through the fenced plots of land, which are defined in terms of the landscape as "estercadas" or "majadas". It is curious that the valley through which the stream descends is named Valle de la Estercada (Estercada Valley). The river finally flows into the Saz stream, situated 2 km west of Gamones. This stream subsequently flows into the Duero river, which is a significant waterway in the region.
Arroyo de la Palla, a stream, is a seasonal watercourse. In the summer months, when rainfall is scarce, the river does not typically carry a significant volume of water. It is not uncommon for the river to lack water in its initial stretch. It can transport significant quantities of water during periods of flooding.
After its crossing of the ZA-324 provincial road, the river is joined by two additional minor tributaries. Upon entering the riverbed, the stream begins to meander, exhibiting its characteristic behaviour on the granite surface in the form of small meanders.
It is possible to identify instances where pools have been formed on granite rocks. Regarding the vegetation that grows around it, the basin is covered with blackberries, olive trees and century-old holm oaks. The meadow is characterised by a small field of meadows where steppe birds can be observed chirping and coming out to drink at the backwater of the stream. This region has an enormous biodiversity linked to this area of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park. This approach effectively conveys a positive sentiment towards the environment, fostering a sense of tranquility, calm, and appreciation for nature.
Although fishing is permitted in the basin, it is prohibited in Arroyo de la Palla.
