Herrera de Duero
Herrera de Duero is a hamlet managed by the town council of Tudela de Duero.
The town is situated on the banks of the Duero River, surrounded by pine forests, 15 km from the city of Valladolid and bordering the municipalities of La Cistérniga, Aldeamayor de San Martín, Laguna de Duero, Boecillo and Tudela.
This historic farmhouse is linked to the municipality of Tudela de Duero, one of the oldest towns in the province of Valladolid. Its origins date back to the Neolithic era, between 4,000 and 2,600 BC. These lands have been identified as a privileged settlement, with evidence of ancient pre-Roman and Roman settlements having been found here.
The architectural monuments in this hamlet include the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. The church comprises a single rectangular nave, with the entrance door located on one side at the foot of the church. The building is constructed from ashlar masonry and features a gabled roof. It is capped by a bell tower with a double span and a bell.
In terms of the economy, as in the case of Tudela, the main engine of development is agriculture and livestock farming, with sheep flocks representing a significant sector. Furthermore, the region boasts a long-standing tradition of winemaking.
Herrera de Duero offers a comprehensive range of rural activities, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a diverse experience. The area offers a variety of hiking, cycling and horse riding routes, including trails through the forest and along the banks of the Duero River. Visitors may wish to consider a walk in the Merinera or Brizo gorges.
The fiestas of Herrera de Duero take place at the end of July and include a variety of activities and several bullfights.
