Alto del Pecho
The area surrounding the Duero is characterised by a flat relief that increases in height as we move away from it in a westerly direction.
In this direction, we find the Alto del Pecho hill and the Alto de Las Matas de Lubia pass, at 1021 and 1099 metres respectively.
The vegetation on the route up the hill is sparse, with most of the area comprising coniferous woods, mainly pine forests. The Alto del Pecho is situated in an area that is predominantly agricultural, with fields of crops surrounding it.
The Duero River has formed a system of terraces in this valley. Fluvial terraces are formed when a watercourse deposits in a valley, which is the area with the lowest gradient. The sediments that it carries with it from higher courses are deposited in this area.
The terraces are situated on highly fertile land, which has been used for agricultural purposes by humans since time immemorial.
The Duero River has a particularly winding course, with a double bend in its course through this area.
