Muiño da Marea or Muiño do Cura (Tide Mill)
The tide mill is a stone structure that utilises the kinetic energy of the tides to grind cereals, especially corn, to produce flour, a staple food in Galicia.
This specific mill is unique because, in addition to harnessing the force of the sea, it also uses the hydraulic power of the River Catoira. Thanks to its strategic location at the river mouth, it could fill its reservoirs with both fresh water from the tributary and salt water from the tides.
Although time has left its mark and its state of conservation is not optimal, it still retains a key element: the moa, the mill's runner stone responsible for grinding the grain.
Furthermore, this mill possesses unique value as it is the only tide mill preserved in the town. It is an authentic treasure reminding us how, for centuries, the forces of nature were harnessed for everyday life.
