Senda del Oso Nature Trail
Description
select a stage:

The Senda del Oso Nature Trail runs through the heart of Asturias, between the municipalities of Quirós and Teverga, where the last populations of the Cantabrian brown bear have found an unbeatable refuge. The trail is a pedestrian and bicycle path 25 km long which benefits from the layout of an old mine railway which used to run along these valleys between the Asturian towns of Trubia and Santa Marina, with a branch which reached the mining sites of Entrago.
Today, the small locomotives that until 1963 used to transport coal and iron ore by the Valleys of Quirós and Teverga have been replaced by many travellers who come visit this part of the Cantabrian Mountains, attracted not only by its natural beauty, but also its cultural and architectural heritage, its superb cuisine and its ancient traditions. Preservation of traditional agricultural structures and a low-intensity farming system favoured an optimal conservation of the environment. The abundance of meadows and pastures is an evidence of the importance of cattle farming for local economy.
